What needs to be done in a car dealershipRunning a business efficiently is a concern that every business owner has.  When you have a car dealership, it is even more important.  Customers can tell if your business is being run in an efficient manner and the chances are that if they see that it is not efficiently run, they will not feel comfortable buying a car from you.

In order to have the smooth, efficiently run operation, there are many daily tasks that have to be performed by each member of the team.  There are many people that make up the team in a dealership including administrators, lot attendants, sales people, office personnel and many others.

Many times. Car dealerships rely on things like repeat customers and customer referrals.  In order to be able to get repeat customers and referrals is to make sure that every single employee pulls their own weight.

Salespeople

Salespeople in the new car industry really do have a simple job.  Customers come to the dealership because they are already interested in the merchandise.  When they come, they have generally already done at least some basic research and know what they want.  All that the salespeople have to do is be courteous and knowledgeable about the inventory.  Make test drives happen and then negotiate for a price that is acceptable to both parties.

Lot Attendants

These are the people who deal with the vehicles on a daily basis.  When an up comes to the dealership, if the vehicles are dirty how many of them are going to be interested in buying them?  Lot attendants don't just keep the vehicles clean though.  They will also inspect new arrivals for any damage as well as make sure that all of the VINs match up.  If there are any accessories that should have come with a specific vehicle, it will also be in their job description to keep up with those accessories and to keep records of what came with what car.

Administrative Work

Any time there is a vehicle sold, there is a TON of paperwork to be done and it must be done properly or there will be all sorts of problems.  There are credit checks to be run, financing to be figured out, contracts to be drawn up and many other little details that go into the sale of each vehicle.  If even one thing is missed, or one digit is wrong in a VIN or on a contract, the results can spell disaster for that particular deal.

Marketing

Successful marketing can make or break a dealership.  Marketing is not just confined to radio and TV spots though.  The Internet plays a big role on today's marketing options.  Beyond that, there are also a number of other marketing avenues.  The more creative the marketing, the better the sales.  However, it doesn't matter how creative the marketing team is if the rest of the people working at the dealership do not hold up their respective ends.

Actually, that goes for every single role in a dealership.  When one area slips, everyone else does too.  Make sure that everyone is doing as they should and your dealership will be meeting quarterly quotas every time.
